Gilmer Landfill Scale House

This morning we needed to dispose of our trash so we visited Gilmer landfill. What a lovely experience. We were a bit hesitant about this establishment due to some of the reviews here. We were pleasantly surprised. The director of collections was so helpful. He was articulate and nice! We were also thrilled to also see they now recycle cans! Thank you very much for making dumping trash a wonderful experience.

A bit overpriced for the scale side at $0.14lb or $280 per ton. Whitestone and WM in Blue Ridge are SIGNIFICANTLY less. So if you have anything over 200lbs, it might be worth the trip/time to go to one of those.

The staff is now friendly, and even will help you unload. They now charge a flat rate of 14 cents a pound, including mattresses chairs, and anything else. I still think their prices are high as part of our taxes are supposed to be being used for this.

Scale houses off of tower Rd in Ellijay is a pure rip-off.. I had a 4x6 trailer with 12 bags 18 gallon trash bags of househould trash.. which if I would of taken it to the dumpster probably would have only been $10-15.. but nope..the scales and the man charged me $78.40!!! Almost $80 for 12 bags of househould trash.. never again will I go there and I hope everyone who reads this heeds to my caution! Plus they don't give you a receipt of your load coming in and load coming out. Please take caution and fine somewhere else.. please!

The guys that work there are so nice. I took off stars bc even though they got a second dumpster, one is always closed. So you still have the traffic jam. Also, why not put in a second place for cardboard on the other side? This is the dump many people use. My biggest complaint is the website isn’t kept up to date. For instance, this past Sunday I was going to town, had garbage loaded and just thought I better check. Site said closed, message at # said open Mon-Sat. Unloaded everything. Decided to drive by & they were open. I have physical issues so this was no small thing. We pay our taxes and to dispose of trash. Get it together management.

We recently moved to the talking rock area and I called before I brought our moving boxes and miscellaneous items to Gilmer land fill. I brought $100 cash because where we moved from a load twice the size of what I brought would have cost $40. I went to weigh again after emptying my trailer and brought a hundred dollar bill and asked if she had change to break it for me? She very smartly said it’s $141.50 and I’m not joking! I said you have to be kidding where I moved from it would have been $40! She very smartly told me this ain’t where you came from! And proceeded to tell me I needed to go get her the rest of the money in cash and she needed my id and address. She said I needed to be back with the money before 4! I had to go all the way home and get more cash and come back all the while feeling like a criminal the way I was treated! It was a over all bad experience for me and I’ll never go back there again!

Very rude to customers. Went on the scales and waited for 2 minutes the red light went off but the green never came, thought we were good to go came back to pay and the lady at the scales stared yelling at me for not waiting for the green. I told her about the light and she acclaimed that she didn't care and that she should've had me go get what I dumped and return to the scales. Then charged me anyways. They really need to hire better people and update thier electronics.

I love having this place in town. Never had any issues and staff is friendly.
