Frontier Village Historic Site

Adorable little area, good view of the river. The cabins and other historical buildings are easy to view, and some are open to walk thru. I appreciate the area since a lot of old structures like these have been left to rott or torn down long ago. Keeping the architectural history alive for others to see how folks lived before our time is important to me. I love old homes, the architecture, and how things were made during previous eras. The cabins give you an idea of how the earlier settlers had to live, and later generations that also occupied those homes as time passed. The fireplaces are awesome, too. Definitely worth a visit if you like old historic buildings. The whole town actually has quite a few jems of architectural beauty, if you can see past the aging of them, and imagine how they looked in their prime.

This small collection of older structures have been saved from demolition and placed here for everyone to enjoy. There are no attendants, but everything has signage to describe the buildings. Very neat place to stretch your legs and see a bit of turning the 19th century.

Very cool. Love seeing historic sights. This place does needs fixed up some though. Lots of vandalism...it's sad.

This was a neat historical village. Fun to see the old structures and some of the tools on display.

Nice Small History Park. Cabins, replica of Fort Stockade, several historic buildings and a gun emplacement. All overlooking the river below.

To say I was disappointed would be an understatement. On our visit it appeared rundown and not maintained. The grass had been allowed to grow high and tassel, which can easily lead to picking up ticks, but one had to walk through it to see the various buildings. Repairs have been made with obviously new lumber instead of distressed wood or at least wood stressed to appear old and weathered. Most disturbing, in the midst of summer multi-colored older Christmas lights were hanging around various buildings. This just looked tacky when there are LED lights that have a more period correct appearance available. This place has so much potential to generate tourism for Fort Gaines, but not like we found it.

This was a nice surprise. A good number of historic buildings and signs describing them. The fortress was only 100 sq ft, but provided a place of refuge for the villagers when under attack. Amazing!

There are some nice old buildings and a nice view of the chattahoochee river. All the buildings were brought here from different locations. If in the area and into history it is an okay place to visit but wouldn't drive the hour we did
